A crypto wallet has lost Wrapped Bitcoin valued at $69.3 million (WBTCAccording to CertiK, a blockchain security company, an attack that poisoned addresses was reported.
A scammer will send a small amount of cryptocurrency to a wallet via a similar-looking address, says an explanation Ledger provides a digital wallet.
This scam is intended to fool wallet owners into copying by mistake the address of the scammer from their transaction history, and have funds sent instead to this wallet.
CertiK notes A scammer imitated a transfer for 0.05 Ethereum.ETHThe victim was tricked into sending 1155 WBTC, worth $69.3 million dollars to the incorrect address.
WBTC (WBTC) is an ERC-20 Token pegged to price. BTCThis allows for traders to make Bitcoin-related bets while remaining within the Ethereum ecosphere. At the time of this writing, it is worth $62,953, and has risen nearly 7% over the last 24 hours.
Peckshield, a blockchain security company. notes The scammer then exchanged the WBTC stolen for 23,000 ETH, and transferred the funds out.
At the time of this writing, Ethereum was trading at $3116. Market cap-wise, the second most valuable crypto asset is up over 4% within 24 hours.
